SOLUTION

GIVEN

  • In three years' time a pet mouse will be as old as his owner was four years ago.

  • Their present ages total 13 years.

TO DETERMINE

The age of each now.

EVALUATION

Let present age of ower = x years

Now it is given that in three years' time a pet mouse will be as old as his owner was four years ago.

4 years ago ager of ower = x - 4 years

So present age of pet

= x - 4 - 3 years

= x - 7 years

Now their present ages total 13 years.

By the given condition

 \sf{x + x - 7 = 13}

 \sf{ \implies \: 2x  - 7 = 13}

 \sf{ \implies \: 2x   = 20}

 \sf{ \implies \: x   = 10}

FINAL ANSWER

Present age of ower = 10 years

Present age of prt = 3 years
