Because the speed of sound is less than the speed of Light.
Light's speed in vacuum is 3×10^8m/s which is nearly equal to 3 lac km/s

Let's say that a lightning strike occurs 5 km away from you. The sound will take about 14.6 seconds to reach you, but the light takes around 4.63 nanoseconds.
