since lines are parallel we can apply basic proportionality theorem to find the value of x

A(ADE)/A(ABC)=AD/DB=AE/EC

=x/x+1=x+3/x+5

=x(x+5)=(x+3)(x+1)

=x^2+5x=x(x+1)+3(x+1)

=x^2+5x=x^2+x+3x+3

=x^2+5x-x^2-x-3x-3=0

=x-3

Now,

x-3=0

x=3
