Given a triangle ABC in which their sides

AB = 5 units

AC = 7 units.

and 3 rd side BC is not given.

We know that in a triangle Sum of 2 sides is always greater than the 3 rd side

Hence AB + AC is always greater than BC

=> 5 + 7 > BC

=> BC < 12-----------------------(1)

We know that in a triangle , difference of 2 sides is always less than the 3 rd side.

Hence AC - AB is always less than  BC

=> 7 - 5 < BC

=> BC > 2..............................(2)

From (1) and (2), we can say that

2 < BC < 12.

Hence, x = 12 and y = 2
