it is given that AB=AC

so it is an isosceles triangle

so angle B = angle C

now

angle A + angle B + angle C = 180

40 + X + X =180

40 + 2X =180

2X =180 - 40

2X = 140

X = 70

hence angle B = angle C = 70 degree

Answer:x=70 degree and y= 70 degree

Step-by-step explanation:In triangle angles A+B+C=180

=> B+C=180-A

           =180-40=140 degree--------(1)

since ,angle opposite to equal sides of triangle are equal

therefore,angle B=angle C

from (1),2B=140 => B=70 => also C=70
