--> BC : EF = 3 : 4
=> BC² : EF² = 9 : 16
Now, ( ABC ) ~ ( DEF )
=> ar( ABC ) : ar( DEF ) = BC² : EF² = 9 : 16
Given, ar( ABC ) = 54cm²
=> ar( DEF ) = [ 16 / 9 ] * 54 = 16 * 6 cm² = 96 cm²
There you have it... The area of DEF is 96cm²
