If angle b is equal to angle c which is 70°, triangle ABC is an isoceles triangle. Therefore your angle a becomes 180-70-70= 40°
1/2 of angle b +1/2 of angle c becomes,
1/2 of 70+1/2 of 70= 35+35= 70°
Hence, 70° + 40°= 110°

I hope this helps
