Answer:

∴AE=7.5 cm AND EC- 10.5 cm

Step-by-step explanation:

GIVEN : AD=5cm, DB=7cm, AC=18cm

(AE+EC)=18 .................[ Because A-E-C]

∴ AE = (18-CE)..................(1)

By BPT (Basic Proportionality Theorem),

\frac{AD}{DB} =\frac{AE}{EC}

\frac{5}{7} =\frac{18-EC}{EC}

From equation (1),

5(EC)=7(18-EC)\\5EC=126-7EC\\12EC=126\\EC = \frac{126}{12} ∴EC=10.5 cm ...................(2)

∴AE=18- EC = 18-10.5 = 7.5 cm

∴AE=7.5 cm AND EC- 10.5 cm
