when DE//BC,

AD / BD = AE/EC

Reciprocating and adding 1 we get,

BD/AD +1 = EC/AE +1

BD + AD /AD = EC + AE / AE

7 / 3 = 15 /AE

therefore,

AE = 15 x 3 / 7

= 6.4 cm
