In Triangle ABC, E is any point on AB and ED|| BC
meet at AC at D. Find AD, if AE = 4.9 cm,
EB = 4.2 cm and DC = 6 cm

Answer:

ED || BC

AE/ EB = AD / DC

4.9 / 4.2= AD / 6

7/6 = AD /6

AD = 7 cm

AD = 7cm

Since ED // BC

Angle AED = ABC

Angle ADE = ACB

Angle BAC = EAD

Therefore, we can say Triangle ABC is similar to Triangle AED

Taking AD = x

We can say that,

AE/AB = AD/AC

4.9/9.1 = x / x+6

This gives us x = 7, Therefore AD = 7
