Measurement of side BC = 9cm

GIVEN: A triangle ABC.

P and Q are points on the sides AB and AC of triangle ABC respectively. AP = 3.5 cm,PB =7cm,AQ = 3cm and QC = 6 cm,PQ = 4•5 cm.

TO FIND: Measurement of side BC.

SOLUTION:

As we know,

The Proportionality theorem states that,

AP/BP = AQ/QC = PQ/BC

taking,

AP/BP = PQ/BC

3.5/7 = 4.5/BC              [AP=3.5cm,PB=7cm,PQ=4.5cm]

1/2 = 4.5/BC

BC = 4.5 * 2                [using transposition]

BC = 9 cm.

Therefore,Measurement of side BC = 9cm.
