Villages in India are changing a lot - I am seeing these changes for last less or more 20 years.
Education : Now students from rural India get entry to any of premium educational institution. Though, still primary and secondary education system are not improved as expected but students are getting awareness about large number of opportunity they have. Earlier few students complete their post graduation and very few in technical field. Now a days, we are seeing many more students from rural are getting entry to engineering, medical and other professional courses.
Accommodation facility : Leaving extreme difficult terrain and extreme poverty area, concrete houses replaced kuchcha house in majority of villages.
Road and transport: Villages are well connected with near by town (Generalised case) and inner roads are also good.
Livelihood : MGNREGA ( Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guaranteed act) turned as biggest game changer for rural area. Earlier, majority of rural people engaged in agriculture based activities and Indian Monsoon is highly unpredictable. So failure of crop was big issue. Still there are related issues present but this act gives 100 days/year guaranteed work. It is the biggest such program in the world.
Apart from these, now villages have better infrastructures like Public health centres, schools, colleges etc in radius of few kilometres. Health penetration reach to villages so effectively improving life expectancy of village people. Mobile, TV, Internet etc played big role to behaviour change of people of rural India - improved rationality , freeing them from many evil customs etc.
However, Still many things need to be done. Still there are some villages where child marriages are prevalent, Still female infanticide, gender testing of pre born etc. are seeing as common and nothing wrong. Gender and caste discrimination is consider as normal in villages. Still practice related sanitation are not improved much. Mobile reach to majority of place but many villages are lacking basic facility. and there are number of many other issues…
But, they are progressive, villages are changing.
