In two alloys, the ratio of iron and copper is 4 : 3 and 6 : 1, respectively. If 14 kg of the first alloy and 42 kg of the second alloy is mixed together to form a new alloy, then what will be the ratio of iron to copper in the new alloy ?

Answer:

Explanation:

Proportion of iron in first alloy = 4/7 (total alloy = 4+3 =7 )                Proportion of iron in second alloy  6/7 (total alloy = 6+1=7)

Weight of first alloy = 14 kg

= 4×2 / 7×2

= 8/14

Weight of second alloy= 42 kg

= 6×6 / 7×6

= 36/42

Thus, the total iron in (14+42) kg ore

= 36+ 8

= 44 kg

Quantity of copper = (14+42)- 44

= 12 kg

Ratio of copper: iron

= 12:44

= 3:11
