Question:-

In two consecutive counting numbers, two less than 5 times the smaller number is equal to four times the larger.what is the number.

Solution:-

Let the two unknown consecutive numbers be ‘ x ’ and ‘ x + 1 ’

Given,

According to question.

➣ 5x - 2 = 4( x + 1 )

➣ 5x - 2 = 4x + 4

➣ 5x - 4x = 2 + 4

➣ 1x = 6

➣ x = 6

Now,

substitute ‘ x ’ to get the consecutive numbers.

➣ x = 6

➣ x + 1 = 6 + 1

➣ x + 1 = 7

  • The smaller number is 6.
  • The larger number is 7.

Verification:-

➣ 5(6) - 2 = 4(6 + 1)

➣ 30 - 2 = 4 (7)

➣ 28 = 28
