There are three types of states of matter
1. Solids - they have a fixed shape and cannot be broken easily. They have a rigid surface and cannot be compressed except for a sponge. They have particles that are tightly packed together and have very less spaces between them. Stronger forces of attraction between the particles.

2. Liquids - they take the shape of the container and cannot be broken easily. They can flow very easily but cannot be compressed. They have particles that have moderate spaces between them and also have moderate forces of attraction between the particles.

3. Gases - they take the shape of the container and can easily flow also. They are highly compressible as they could be compressed in cans or jars. They have particles that have large spaces between them and also have the least forces of attraction between the particles.
