A democratic country refers to a country that follows democratic principles and India has successfully succeeded in following these democratic principles. The following aspects of India's success as a democratic country:
- written Constitution: India has the lengthiest written constitution in the world. As it is detailed about every aspect. The following can be reasons for its length:
- Geography
- Diversity
- majority of the member was from a lawyer background.
- Fundamental right: Article 368 states that the constitution of India can be altered but without disturbing its basic structure. And to alter the constitution requires a long process. People have the right to freedom. right to profess religion. If in case of violation of any of the fundamental rights, one has the power to go to the supreme court.
- No national religion: India doesn't have any national religion it treats all religions equally and therefore it is secular in every aspect.
- Open Elections: the elections held in India are open to everyone, anyone can contest for election or can vote after attaining a certain age limit and qualifications.
- The government is accountable: People have an indirect right to remove the government in power through the non-confidence motion.
