Displacement of a body is equal to the distance covered by it when the body only moves in a single direction in a straight line path(One directional motion).

An example of such motion would be a car travelling on a straight road.

\mathfrak\green{Let's \:take\: an\: example}

First we know distance is the portion covered with respect to a particular time

We, also know that, displacement įs the shortest path to cover a particular distance.

Now, If their įs only one way to go to school and there is no shortcut, then, we travel in only way. that is passing through the straight line

A to B 8 km then the distance and displacement įs equal in this case, because it is a straight lined path
