The different ways in which river erosion is accomplished are wave action, hydraulic action, wind action and persistent action.
Wave action occurs due to breaking waves against the banks of a river.
Hydraulic action is due to hydraulic pressure, or the pressure of water, acting against a river bank.
Wind action is because of continuous blowing of the wind towards the shore or a river, causing decay of its banks. It is aggravated by small abrasive particles present in the wind.
Persistent action is due to the continuous flow of water over long periods of time, that force the river bank to slowly erode.
