The histone proteins contain lysine and arginine amino acid residues which give positive charge to histone proteins, whereas DNA is negatively charged because of presence of phosphate groups in its backbone.

The DNA is attached to histone proteins because of electrostatic attraction between its negative charge and positive charge of histone proteins.
