The question is asked from the story the Engine Trouble which is written by the story writer R. K. Narayan. The story is taken from the book The Malgudi Days. In the story, the narrator wants to sell off the road engine.
Because of this struggle, his marriage was in danger. Also, the Municipal Chief wanted the narrator to shift their road engine from that place. In the end of the story, the road engine comes in need of the people. Due to earthquake, the road engine came into work.
Explanation:
The narrator, at first, tries to dispose of the road engine by trying to sell it. But no one is interested in buying a road engine. He then decides to give it off to somebody because he finds that he has to pay rent for keeping it parked at the Gymkhana grounds.
He tries to move it with an elephant and fifty people but the elephant is terrified with the road engine. Next, he banks on a Swamiji, but the Swamiji is prevented by the police.
Finally, through nature, the narrator’s problem is solved. There is a big earthquake and the road engine gets stuck in a well. The owner of the well was happy with this because he was trying to close the well and now it was done.
