Crossing over of chromatid pair occurs in PROPHASE-I, it is the first phase of meiosis-1. in prophase-1, 3rd phase is of PACHYTENE in which crossing over takes place due to formation of recombinant nodules.

The crossing over of chromatids occurs in the pachytene stage of prophase 1 of meiosis during a process called synapsis. Crossing over or chromosomal cross over refers to the exchange of genetic material between two homologous chromosomes non - sister chromatids resulting in recombinant chromosomes during sexual reproduction. It is also one of the final phases of genetic recombination.
