Answer:

The proportion is in 1:3.

Step-by-step explanation:

To find : In what proportion should two type of gold one of 24 carat and another of 16 carat purity be mixed to get Gold of 18 carat ?

Solution :

Let x gram of 24 carats and y grams of 16 carat of gold be mixed.

The mixed gold is of 18 carat.

According to question,

\frac{24x+16y}{x+y}=18

24x+16y=18(x+y)

24x+16y=18x+18y

24x-18x=18y-16y

6x=2y

\frac{x}{y}=\frac{2}{6}

\frac{x}{y}=\frac{1}{3}

or x:y=1:3

Therefore, The proportion is in 1:3.
