In what ratio does the point (2, 4) divide the line joining the points (6, 8) and (- 2, 0)?

p={mx2+nx1} , {my2+ny1}

         m+n           m+n

2={-2m+6n}

         m+n

2m+2n=-2m+6n

4m-4n=0

m-n=0--------(i)

4={m0+n8}

         m+n

4m+4n=8n

m+n=2--------(ii)

adding (i) and (ii)

2m=2

m=1---------(iii)

substitute (iii) in (i)

n=1

so the line is divided in the ratio  1:1
