In what ratio does the point (– 4, 6) divide the line segment joining the points A(– 6, 10) and B(3, – 8)?

let point C be(-4,6)

  1. distance between AC is√[(-6+4)²+(10-6)²]
  2.          =>√20
  3. distance between BC is √[(3+4)²+(-8-6)²]
  4.          =>√245
  5. hence point c divides AC in the ratio of√20:√245
