The rise of nation states was responsible for the decline of feudalism in many ways -

1 ) In France & other German nations , the ideology of economic liberalism was accompanied with the idea of abolition of feudal dues and obligations . The educated liberal middle class - elites , who played a significant role for the project of nation-building , were henceforth supported by peasants & workers . In the eyes of peasants , a unified economic territory offered them possibility of political & financial equality .

2 ) After the Vienna Congress of 1815 , conservative forces came in power . Through the initiatives taken by Napoleon , they realised that modernisation could in fact strengthen autocratic monarchies in Europe . Thus , this resulted in the abolition of feudalism & clerical privileges in the areas controlled by conservatives .

3 ) In the regions which were already nation states prior to the nineteenth century , huge masses of peasant people & workers participated in revolutions . This can be clearly seen during the ages of revolutions .
