In what way is the reaction of Gerald to the scorpions different from his family members? What does this tell you about Gerald?

Gerald was very fond of scorpions just like his other pet animals. ... But he thought scorpions needed to be respected and one should not be clumsy around them. Since they give humans equal respect by staying away from us, we shouldn't go on touching them too.
