in what way the meaning of the term " hindustan" has changed over the years?

hindustan means the place where most hindus live. there are more hindus living in india due to which india considered as hindusthan. this was the actual meaning but most of the people started saying that hindustan means only hindus living in a country.meaning changed like this over the years.......
