the administration of the company was way more complex than the kings but was effective.

The Company took suggestions from pundits and maulvis before making new laws for criminal and civil cases. The Indian rulers seldom thought about respecting local sensibilities before making any rule.

The Indian rulers had revenue and administrative divisions of their territories. But they were not very effective. Hence, the British introduced changes by making new administrative divisions which they called Presidencies.

The judiciary was also not much effective. There was the same court for the disposal of both the civil and criminal cases. The British established a proper judiciary system by establishing separate criminal and civil court in each district. The Company also improved the police system.
