Answer:

Ubuntu is a Nguni word meaning the quality of being human" and it shows itself in many ways in African society. I assume we are talking about American prisons and not those in Africa. Our prison system in this country lacks that quality very seriously and it's something that's needed before the men and women incarcerated can feel human. Personally I think the lack of being able to feel human is one of the biggest problems with our prisons. How can you possibly expect to treat someone else like a human being when you yourself do not feel human but just feel like a number or a possession. I've heard it said that the American prison system is the last place in this country were slavery remains and from what I have personally seen inside I would tend to agree. Now some criminologists say that the people inside need to learn how to act like responsible adults before thou be able to function successfully but with the lack of programs to train people for the outside and the lack of educational resources, I think it's going to be awhile before that's a reality. Something that we need to work on. People will quit coming back to prison when they have something to do with their lives it's productive and fulfilling and human. The quality of being human in our prisons doesn't need to be improved. It needs to be put in place in the 1st place. Then we can start to improve on it once it's there. Keep in mind that this is coming from the point of view of a formerly incarcerations person, myself. I have seen that lack 1st hand and know that it's true.

HOPE THIS WILL SERVE YOUR NEED ‼️
