In 1276 CE, when the Mongols invaded and consumed China, they had had a great empire for about fifty years. The Mongol Empire stretched from India to Russia to northern China and Korea. In 1276 AD, the Mongols captured the capital Sung in Hangzhou, and in 1279 the Mongol M M took control of all of China. Kublai Khan, the Mongol leader, moved the capital of the Mongol Empire from Karakorum in Central Asia to Beijing, China. In 1271 CE, when he was 56 years old, Kublai Khan declared himself Chinese emperor. Kublai Khan attempted to conquer Japan in 1274 and 1281 CE, but failed because of his troops being hit by a major storm. He also sought to recapture Vietnam (Annam) and northern Burma, but did not gain any success. Even in China, the power of Kublai Khan is not very successful. The Chinese are angry because Kublai Khan appoints a foreigner like Marco Polo, who is from Venice, as governor, instead of choosing a Chinese native. But this is because Kublai Khan does not trust Chinese natives. In addition, the Chinese are also angry that Mongols continue to use their language and customs, and do not behave like Chinese.
