According to the COI, every citizen has the right to follow his/her choice of religion. No religion has been declared as official religion of the state. While the Indian State follows the strategy of positive intervention, the American State strictly follows the policy of the separation of religion from politics and does not interfere in the religious activities of any religion. The same is the case with France. In India the government may not prohibit anyone from following a religion but the practices which may be harmful may be restricted and the sate may interfere in such cases like=sati pratha.
