In what ways were the map prepared by the British different from the one mad by ptolemy

Ptolemy's map: This map belongs to 12th century.In this map Eurasia continent has been shown.He showed only north part of Africa in his map.He didn't prepare thematic maps.
British maps: These maps belongs to 16th and 17th centuries. In these maps asia and europe continents have been shown separately. They showed total Africa continent in their maps. The Britishere prepared different thematic maps like political, physical, climatic, population, crops etc.
