in what ways were the maps prepared by the British different from the one made by Ptolemy?

The british established their power in India ,they began making detailed maps of the interior of the country . They established a department called survey of India to survey the country &prepare maps. Ptolemy map is based on mathematical calculation other people while preparing maps took Ptolemy book as base.
