Constant velocity means zero acceleration. This in turn means zero force on the body. So once a force is applied to a body for short time, and the force is then removed, the body will continue to move with uniform velocity till such time that a force is again applied to it.

When the acceleration of the body is zero the velocity remain constant.

 =  > v = u + at

Where,

v = final \: velocity

u = initial \: velocity

a = acceleration

t = time

 =  > when \: a = 0 \\   \: then\: v = u
