Both Ba(OH)2 and BaCO3 react with and readily dissolve in hydrochloric and nitric acids forming soluble salts BaCl2 and Ba(NO3)2 respectively. They are basic in nature and so readily react with acids. But they will not dissolve in sulfuric acid as they form insoluble BaSO4 with this acid. ·
