India is an agricultural country and the agricultural sector contributes upto 61% in the gross domestic product. The rate of GDP from agriculture keeps growing annually.

India produces food crops like cotton, rice, sugarcane etc. However, the most important beverage crop production is that of tea. India has lead the international markets in the production of tea and in 2015-16, was ranked first in the production of tea.

There are certain climatic and environmental needs to grow tea. It requires mountain soil which is rich in iron and lime. Tea production is ideal in the temperature of 21°C-29°C(may increase during summers). Tea growth demands rainfall ranging between 150-250 cm, however it requires well drained soil where the rainfall is not
