Answer:

First, What is Anaerobic respiration?

=> Anaerobic respiration is the process by which a respiratory substrate like glucose is incompletely broken down in the absence of free molecular oxygen.

How the energy is produced and what is the process of oxidation?

=> In the process, glucose is oxidised by using oxygen from some inorganic compounds like sulphate, nitrate, carbonate etc.

Oxidation occurs by the removal of hydrogen atoms and it is accepted by any of the inorganic compounds that is mentioned above.

Only 2 molecules of ATP are produced from one molecule of glucose and about 50 kcal heat is generated.

Now, Where anaerobic respiration occurs?

=> Anaerobic respiration occurs in the cytoplasm of some anaerobic bacteria like Paracoccus denitrificans, Methanobacterium sp., Bacillus licheniformis etc.

Anaerobic Respiration:

•Anaerobic respiration stands for respiration occuring during absence or lack of oxygen. In this process, glucose(which is broken down into pyruvate first) is converted into ethanol with the evolution of some amounts of energy

Anaerobic respiration in yeast:

Glucose=====>Pyruvate========>Ethanol + Energy

Here, breakdown of pyruvate from glucose which is first step is any type of respiration,is called glycolysis.

•Anaerobic Respiration occurs in the cytoplasm of an organism

•This reaction yields very less amount of energy,up to 2ATP.

•Two types of anaerobic respiration:

1. Alcoholic fermentation

2. Lactose fermentation

→Lactose or lactic acid is formed during lack of energy

Examples,

Bacteria like mycoplasma which show partial anaerobic respiration

Yeast

Archae Bacteria
