Laterite soil is found in abundance between the Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn, leaving out some of the areas. They are mainly found in equatorial forests of the Savannas, and in the Sahelian steppes.
In areas where the atmosphere is humid such as the tropical and subtropical regions, they are found to develop.
In India, it is widespread and covers almost 10℅ of the land area. They are found in areas such as the Eastern and Western Ghats, Andhra Pradesh, some parts of Maharashtra and Karnataka, Assam, West Bengal,Jharkhand, Orissa Kerala and Meghalaya.
