Anaerobic respiration
It occurs when nutrients are incompletely oxidised using O₂.
It is low energy yield process which takes place in cytoplasm.
Examples :
Lower organisms like bacteria, yeast (the end product is ethyl alcohol.)
Skeletal muscles (the end product is lactic acid)
Some endoparasites (due to lack of mitochondria)
In micro-organisms, fermentation is used in place of anaerobic respiration.
