Operculum is not present in the fishes of the class chondrichthyes of Pisces. Operculum is a covering over the gills in fishes.

The fishes of class chondrichthyes are exclusively marine fishes. Their exoskeleton is made up of placoid scales and endogenous skeleton is made up of cartilage.

5-7 pair of gills our present and the external openings of the gills are not covered by operculum.

Operculum is mainly seen and is a main structure or functional organ in Bony fishes. Chondrichthyes are cartilagenous fishes and operculum is absent in them.
