While "officially" Buddhism may not be a leading religion in many western countries it is among the quickest growing. Buddhist thought permeates much of western society - children at schools often start the day with a period of "mindfulness" derived from Buddhist practice, people often speak of the karmic value of certain activities, Zen koans are often written out as inspirational plaques. Vegan, vegetarian and anti animal cruelty groups are common.
Buddhism has no influence at all in Europe outside of Buddhists. The same is true for huge chunks of the world.
Buddhism is least evident in the country of India.
