As most of the Chess tournaments are held in Europe, Vishwanathan Anand stays for a large part of the year in Spain. There is another reason to it; a Spanish couple, Mauricio and Nieves Perea, became fond of him after they met in 1991 at Linares. Nieves has since expired, but her husband Mauricio is still living. Anand refers to them as his European parents.
