In which direction does cohesive force act in cappilary tube

capillary action works under three general force, i.e., cohesion, adhesion and surface tension. In case of water the adhesive force is more as compared to cohesive force. Hence surface tension occurs in upward direction, this is the reason why water moves upward in capillary tubes and a concave meniscus is formed.
