For eukaryotes, amitosis occurs predominantly in polyploid cells (that is, containing 3 or more copies of its haploid chromosome set), which are common throughout nature, ranging from bacteria, single cell eukaryote ciliates, plants , and also in some tissues of diploid animals including humans.
