Gautama Buddha used the Pali language in his lecture and his education.

It is the language spoken by the educated i.e Priests and Pundits.

Prakrit along with Pali is the language of the common masses during this time period.

Answer:

Buddha preached in Pali for two reasons.

1.) The intellectual language used by high caste intellectuals was Sanskrit. Pali was the vernacular used by commoners. He wanted to keep his teachings inclusive and comprehensible for everyone irrespective of caste or class.

2.) Drawing from the first point, he was against caste discrimination leashed out through language. Hence, Pali was the best choice there despite having mastery in several languages.
