Explanation: Sangam literature was written in the Tamil language.The word Sangam is also spelled as chankam, cankam, or shangam. It relates to the oldest period of Tamil Literature.The first stage of Tamil literature is called Sangam  and the next as Neethi Noolgal.

The Sangam literature provides one of the best source to know and learn about history of the age old Tamil country.The Sangam poems refers to a number of kings and princes, some of whose existence have been authenticated through archaeological findings. It is still regarded as the leading findings of the early Cholas, the Pandyas and the Cheras.

Sangam an ancient academy, provided a platform for the Tamil author and poets and authors to assemble regularly to print their work. The meeting took place in the Madurai city in South India under the aegis of the Pandya kings.  

The poems composed by the Tamil poets belonged to the Sangam literature. It is a collection of 2381 poems written by  473 poets in Tamil.
