The speed of sound depends upon the density of the medium through which it is travelling. The higher the density of the medium, the faster is the propagation of sound. Since density of solids is higher than liquids and gases, so sound travels faster in solids. Also, the molecules are tightly packed in solid, allowing sound waves to travel more quickly through it.
