In which of the following cases will the displacement covered and the magnitude of the displacement are not same?Justify.
1. A passenger in a train travels from Delhi to Kolkata.
2. A rain drop falling in still air.
3. An athlete completes one lap in a race.

Distance covered is the total distance moved from start to finish which can be in any direction , displacement is the shortest distance between the start and finish points .

Here, the athlete completes one lap, so start and finish points are the same;  so, displacement is 0;  while distance will be the circumference of the track .

In the other 2 cases, we can assume that the rain drop falls in a straight path vertically  and the train moves in a straight track from Delhi till Kolkata.

So, distance and displacement will be the same in these 2 cases.
