In the rectum of the alimentary canal of Periplaneta more water is reabsorbed as rectum contains rectal papillae. As Periplaneta is terrestrial insect with a great need of water conservation. It has adaptations to conserve water until the waste reaches end of the alimentary tract. Proximal parts of the malpighian tubules reabsorb water and certain inorganic substances. As the urine moves down the alimentary tract more water is absorbed back specially in the rectum through rectal papillae. At the end dry uric acid is excreted out after complete reabsorption of water.
