These coins are believed to be approximately "2,000 years old" and were found with some artefacts. These are a proof of trade relations between the Chera kingdom and Romans. The Romans had landed in Western India at a place known as Muziris which is the present day city Kodungallur in Kerela. They then travelled through "Palghat Pass" to reach western Tamil Nadu.
